Markets Data and Order Placement Workflow
This article shows CNS users how to monitor markets, review economic events, and place FX orders using the Markets Data Module and dashboards.
1. Overview
CNS Treasury provides daily market insights via email and in-platform dashboards. These tools help you monitor live FX rates, news, and economic calendars, so you can place orders strategically and manage exposure proactively.
2. Daily Market Snapshot
-
Email Summary – Each morning you’ll receive an email with key FX market updates.
-
Markets Overview Dashboard – Log into CNS and go to Dashboards → FX Market Overview for:
-
Current spot rates and cross rates
-
65-day and 7-year moving averages
-
Live news feed
-
Currency charts and cycle positioning
-
Tip: Quickly scan for major market movements or unusual events.
3. Currency-Specific Dashboards
-
Navigate to a specific pair (e.g., NZD/USD) for deeper charting.
-
Compare short-term trends (1-year daily view) with long-term positioning (5–7 year averages).
-
Use this to decide whether current rates are favourable relative to historic averages and policy.
4. Economic Calendar
-
Check the upcoming data releases (e.g., CPI, retail sales, jobless claims, central bank rate announcements).
-
Anticipate potential volatility and decide whether to place target orders in advance.
Example: If NZD/USD is near 0.59 and key U.S. data is due, an exporter might stagger orders at 0.5875, 0.5850, and 0.5800 to capture favourable moves if volatility occurs.
5. Reviewing Existing Orders
-
Go to View Reports and run your FX Blotter.
-
Export for easier review.
-
Check:
-
Current order levels
-
Distance from spot (e.g., 6.3% away may be too far to be actionable)
-
Whether existing orders are adequately staggered across price levels
-
If gaps exist, consider placing new orders.
6. Entering New Orders
-
Navigate to FX → View Data → Orders.
-
Input desired order levels, currencies, and amounts.
-
Orders will then be tracked in CNS, and any fills automatically flow into your positions via trade capture.
7. Workflow Summary
-
Review daily email and log into the Markets Overview Dashboard.
-
Scan for current market levels, averages, and news.
-
Check the economic calendar for upcoming events.
-
Review existing orders in the blotter.
-
Enter or adjust new orders as needed.
This process ensures you are always positioned with market context, policy alignment, and forward-looking planning.
